Legendary filmmaker Michael Mann is branching out into novels and is set to being a prequel to his 1995 hit Heat to book stands. Mann will oversee Michael Mann Books, and will have a bunch of writers put together properties that could potentially spill over into the film world for a future adaptation.
According to Deadline, the Heat prequel will delve into the early years of Al Pacino’s detective Vincent Hanna, Robert DeNiro’s Neil McCauley, Val Kilmer’s Chris Shihirles, and even Jon Voight’s Nate. To me this screams a TV series, and what a TV series it would make.
