Bill Paxton has joined the cast of the planned TV pilot based on the superb, Oscar-winning 2001 movie Training Day. The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Paxton will play Frank Rourke, ‘a veteran LAPD cop who heads up the Special Investigation Section (SIS), a unit that goes after the worst of the worst. He lives by the law of the jungle and believes that real courage is the will to chase the bad guys where the law won’t. Needless to say, Frank isn’t too keen to be babysitting a new trainee, Kyle Craig (uncast).’
Rourke is the equivalent of Denzel Washington’s character in the original film, a role that bagged him an Oscar.
Craig, Ethan Hawke’s Jake Hoyt in the original movie, will be now be an idealistic young African-American police officer who is appointed to work under Paxton’s Rourke.
The project is set up at CBS with Will Beall (Gangster Squad) writing the script for the pilot episode, which Danny Cannon will direct.
More news as we get it.
