The Oscars are taking place this weekend, and for once, a high-octane action film is listed amongst the movies going for Best Picture. Mad Max: Fury Road features some of the best car chase sequences ever committed to film, but which movie features the best car chase scene of all time? Well, the folks at JCT600 have conducted an independent survey, and asked 1,000 people to vote on which film features the best car chase ever.

Coming out on top with a hug majority is the 1969 Michael Caine film The Italian Job with over 30% of the vote.

Commenting on the result, Ian Davies (MINI Brand Director at JCT600) said: “It was with the release of The Italian Job that this iconic brand went from strength to strength. The film helped make the MINI part of British culture and the icon that it is today. The impressive car chase showed MINI at its best; fun, daring and exciting. With no special effects it was the MINI’s personality alone that made the scene so impressive”.

The Italian Job was followed by Fast & Furious 6, the film which involved car chases in the streets of London. The 6th instalment in this series also features some British classics of its own, namely the Ginetta G60 and the Jensen Interceptor, as well as newer luxury cars like the Mercedes SLS AMG, with plenty of insane stunts along the way.
