In what is quite unsurprising news, New Line Cinema has greenlit a sequel to last year’s huge global hit San Andreas, with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and director Brad Peyton to return for a new disaster rescue.
San Andreas grossed a cool $473 million around the world, and revolved around a helicopter pilot, played by Johnson, who had to battle against an earthquake, a deal with some shaky family issues at home. Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario and Paul Giamatti are also expected to return.
Neil Widener and Gavin James are writing the script for the sequel, which The Hollywood Reporter says may be focusing on the infamous Ring of Fire in the Pacific Ocean, with fault lines and volcanoes which is apparently home to about 90 percent of the world’s earthquakes.
