On Chesil Beach adaptation confirms Saoirse Ronan in lead role

Saoirse-RonanThe impressive Saoirse Ronan, who’s gathering all the deserved plaudits with every new movie she releases, has been confirmed by Number 9 Films to star in their Autumn production of On Chesil Beach. It’s based on Ian McEwan’s novel which was selected for the Booker Prize shortlist in 2007.

Set in England in 1962, the film will star Ronan (who is currently excelling in Brooklyn) as Florence and will be directed by Dominic Cooke (The Hollow Crown). The story is that of two young lovers and how their unexpressed misunderstandings and fears shape the rest of their lives, it’s a really good book that shows how a life can be changed – by a gesture not made or a word not spoken.

Number 9 Films, the team behind Youth and the award-winning Carol, producers Elizabeth Karlsen and Stephen Woolley had this to say:

“It’s an extremely exciting prospect to be reunited with Saoirse Ronan on such a beautiful and heartbreaking project. This will continue Number 9 Films’ tradition of high quality and prestigious adaptions that our production company is now renowned for.”

Saoirse Ronan is undoubtedly one to keep an eye on and I see this as a really smart team-up for all parties involved. More news On Chesil Beach as it comes.
