First Clip from Horror Anthology ‘Holidays’ Lands just in time for Valentine’s Day

Holidays

As it’s Valentine’s Day today we thought that it would be the perfect time to share this brand new clip from forthcoming horror anthology Holidays. Just like recent anthologies Tales of Halloween and V/H/SHolidays has collected a group of diverse and interesting directors, who take it in turns to terrify us.

The premise behind this collection is that each story is set around a different calendar holiday and will include stories set on New Year’s Eve, Easter, Mother’s Day and even St. Patricks Day. The directing talent includes Kevin Smith, as well as Some Kind of Hate‘s Adam Egypt Mortimer and Starry Eyes duo Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer.

The Starry Eyes pair follow up their fantastic tale of Hollywood and the Occult with a story set on the supposedly most romantic day of the year, Valentine’s Day. If their debut is anything to go by it’s unlikely to be a roses, chocolates and candle-lit dinner affair and this new clip definitely points to a more sinister tale of obsession and despair.

The Valentine’s Day story will focus on a young teenage outsider who becomes infatuated with her diving coach. That hook alone is enough to get the skin crawling as everyone knows that teenage girls can go a little mad when in the throes of a crush – just look at all the Justin Bieber and One Direction fans.

Speaking to Bloody Disgusting, who premiered the clip, the pair had this to say about the project:

“We wanted to tell a very dark tale of romance from the POV of a love-struck teenager…To us, that was a nice confluence of mixed emotions. We also don’t see a lot of movies with the setting of a High School dive team. So the world of the story felt unique to us.”

Not satisfied to just direct a film for the anthology, Kölsch and Widmyer also provided a script for the New Year’s Eve story, which has been directed by Adam Egypt Mortimer and stars Knock Knock and The Green Inferno‘s Lorenza Izzo.

We’re really hoping that from here on out, around each holiday featured, we’ll get a sneak peek at the relevant holiday short.

No official release date has been announced for Holidays just yet, but I wouldn’t be too surprised if it were to make an appearance at this year’s Frightfest ahead of an October release.
