An eighth Saw movie is in the works. According to reports, Lionsgate has hired writers Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger (Sorority RowPiranha 3D and Piranha 3DD) to pen the new film. It isn;t known if it will be a sequel or reboot, but the word around Hollywood is that it will be called Saw: Legacy.

The Saw movies have been hugely popular since the first film arrived back in 2004. The film and its six sequels have grossed a total of $870 million at the global box-office – all from relatively low budgets.

The story revolves around the character of Jigsaw, a clearly disturbed individual who sets traps and elaborate games for his victims. Over the years, the films have become known for their huge twists as each film climaxes.

Leigh Whannell and James Wan were the driving force behind the original movie, and have been involved in all of the films since. They have gone on to other franchises, with Whannell tackling the Insidious movies, and Wan directing the likes of The Conjuring and the last Fast and the Furious movie.

More news on the new Saw movie as we get it.
