I remember catching the stage show Ghost Stories at the Lyric in Hammersmith many years ago, before its successful couple of runs in the West End, and couldn’t believe how amazing it was – and how scary. Well, now it seems like a Ghost Stories film is on the way courtesy of Andy Nyman, the genius that co-created the original play.

Nyman, an accomplished actor (he appeared in Severance, Black Death and Death At A Funeral), and frequent collaborator with TV mentalist Derren Brown, will direct and reprise his role of Professor Phillip Goodman from the original play, a character described as ‘a psychology academic and skeptic who sees his belief in the rational tested when his old mentor, Charles Cameron, sends him a letter.’

Martin Freeman, who will next be seen in Captain America: Civil War and George Mackay, who delighted in the superb Pride a couple of years ago, will star in the Ghost Stories film, which is set to start rolling before the year is out.

The stage show, which last ran at The Arts Theatre just off Leicester Square in 2015, is described as follows:

Ghost Stories is truly an extraordinary theatrical experience. Written and directed by The League of Gentlemen’s master of the macabre, Jeremy Dyson, and Andy Nyman, co-creator and director of Derren Brown’s television and stage shows, Ghost Stories mixes the very best of theatre with the buzz of a thrill-ride, delivering something truly unique. With some new moments of shock, this show will make you laugh and scream in equal measure.

We’re excited by the prospect of a Ghost Stories film. The show was a marvel, and we can’t wait to see what Nyman has managed to conjure up for a film version. The Ghost Stories film should see the light of day in cinemas in 2017.
