He’s is having a blinding year, and now It looks like a George Miller Cannes jury position will be his next job.
With Mad Max: Fury Road being nominated for awards around the world, including the Academy Awards, the Australian filmmaker is on a roll. Well, in May of this year, it has been confirmed that Miller will head up the judging panel at this year’s film festival in Cannes.
“What an unmitigated delight! Such an honour. I’ll be there with bells on!” Miller said when the news was announced.
Festival organisers seem as delighted with Mad Max: Fury Road as the rest of us.
“Throughout his career, George Miller has constantly experimented with a variety of genres, brilliantly reconciling mass audience expectations and the highest artistic standards,” they said.
“Mad Max broke the mould,” they added, “an ultra-violent futuristic film that brought the action film genre a touch of class with its masterly combination of road movie, western and science fiction elements.”?
Miller has revealed that he’s got another two Mad Max movies on the way after initially saying that he was done with his lucrative potential new franchise.
It became apparent that a recent interview with Miller carried a garbled message that seemed to suggest that Miller was going to ditch the film after Fury Road. Not true.
“That was a completely garbled interview. I was in New York and it was so noisy and the journalist was asking me questions on a red carpet at the National Board of Review,” he said recently. “She completely got the wrong fragments of information that were just not true. I said no, [another ‘Mad Max’ movie] will not be next, and she took that to mean I never wanted to make another ‘Mad Max.’ It won’t necessarily be next, but I have two more stories.”
The George Miller Cannes jury job will kick off at the Film Festival. which takes place in the South Of France from May 11-21st.
