The big worry with all of the fantastic Marvel and Disney movies that Marvel are churning out is; when will it all come to an end? How long will it last? Well, Disney CEO Bob Iger has commented to the BBC that we may be treated to more Star Wars movies after the release of Colin Trevorrow’s Episode IX in 2019.
“There will be more [Star Wars films] after that,” he told BBC Newsbeat. “I don’t know how many, I don’t know how often.”
At the moment, we’re expecting Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the first stand-alone Star Wars movie in December, Episode VIII from Rian Johnson next December, a Han Solo prequel in 2018, and Episode IX in 2019. There’ll probably be another stand-alone movie after that, but we’re unsure of the subject of it.
Great news. But what about Marvel? “Marvel, you’re dealing with thousands and thousands of characters – that will go on forever.”
When asked if he thought fans’ appetites would fade for superhero movies in the future, the CEO had this to say:
“No, I don’t think they’re getting weary,” he said.
“But I think we keep raising the bar in terms of telling stories that bring them back, that excites them, that makes it feel new and that is what we do for a living.”
The next superhero movie to hit screens is Captain America: Civil War in the spring, and then Doctor Strange in November.
