Punisher spin-off series being developed by Netflix

Punisher

Ever since it was announced that Jon Bernthal would be portraying Frank Castle/The Punisher in season 2 of Daredevil, fans have wondered if the character was being groomed for his own series or feature film appearance.

After all, casting an actor of Bernthal’s caliber for a permanent guest appearance in someone else’s show seems like a slight waste of both his talent and the characters narrative potential. However, it now appears that this was all part of Marvel and Netflix’s plan all along as we’ve got a spin-off series in the early stages of development.

This makes perfect sense given that Netflix have begun building their own television universe under the umbrella of the larger MCU. With that in mind, the Punisher definitely fits into the ‘street level’ superhero world currently taking place in New York alongside Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and very soon Iron Fist.

Indeed, with with the Defenders soon assembling this opens up a number of exciting possibilities. As I’m sure any Marvel fan will agree that when it comes to the live action adventures of our favourite comic book superheroes, you can never have too much of a good thing.

This move is also said to have been influenced by the overwhelmingly positive internal response to Bernthal’s take on the Punisher. While Marvel and Netflix have declined to comment at this time, don’t be surprised to see an official announcement following the release of Daredevil Season 2.

You can check out Daredevil Season 2 on 18th March!
