Lynchpin Laura Dern headed for ‘Twin Peaks’

Laura Dern Inland Empire

Warped auteur David Lynch is reuniting with longtime collaborator Laura Dern for the Twin Peaks revival, according to TVLine. Though reports are yet to be confirmed, it’s widely believed she has signed up for the hotly-anticipated new season, currently in production in Washington State.

The pair worked on the films Wild At Heart and Inland Empire sixteen years apart. Rumours abound she is playing Diane, the secretary to Special Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan, also returning), who was referred to in a string of legendary tape recordings but never seen. The original series concerned itself with a murder investigation surrounding the death of schoolgirl Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee). Dern joins the new cast of Amanda Seyfried, Robert Forster (unconfirmed), Balthazar Getty, Robert Knepper and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Out of the “classic” Peaks company it’s said Lee, Sherilyn Fenn, Mädchen Amick, Miguel Ferrer and David Patrick Kelly are coming back, though only MacLachlan has broken cover about his involvement. Michael Horse (Deputy Hawk) features in the recently-released teaser trailer, though it’s unclear whether he’ll be on the show. So mystery rules the day in Twin Peaks Land, and that’s as it should be. Will co-writers Lynch and Mark Frost be able to keep things under wraps? They have till 2017 to protect their secrets.

Showtime is bringing the project to the screen with Lynch directing.
