Director Juan Antonio Bayona has departed the World War Z sequel, according to a report over at Deadline. The reason cited over at the site was that Bayona requires more time on his current project A Monster Calls, which is due out this October, and shooting on the zombie apocalypse thriller is set to kick off this summer for a 2017 release. The project is set up at Skydance and Paramount Pictures, and is written by Locke and Hummingbird scripter Steven Knight.
The studio told Deadline: “Bayona is no longer able to make World War Z 2 this year, and it is our ambition to do so. He is a wonderful director and we hope to work with him soon.”
The talented Bayona previously directed The Orphanage, followed by The Impossible, the tsunami drama starring Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor. A Monster Calls, based on the book of the same name, which stars Toby Kebbell, Liam Neeson, Sigourney Weaver and Felicity Jones, is due on October 21st, 2016.
More news on that World War Z 2 directing vacancy as we get it.
