One of the biggest films of 2015 was Furious 7 (or Fast and Furious 7 as it was known in the UK). It was the highest-grossing film of the year until the likes of Jurassic World and Star Wars: The Force Awakens came along, and thoughts are now turning to the next movie in the hit franchise, which we’ll call Furious 8 until we know otherwise.
New has hit the interwebs overnight that producers, and new series director F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton), are looking at potential locations for the planned film. We’ve seen the franchise roll cameras in the likes of the Middle East, London, Miami, Tokyo and Los Angeles, and we’ve even heard that the eight film in the series could hit New York City, but the studio has released a statement stating that they are currently seeking permission to shoot in Cuba. If they pull it off, Furious 8 will be the biggest film to ever film in the country, and the first Hollywood movie to film there since the 1960s.
Here’s what the studio had to say in a statement.
“Universal Pictures is currently in the process seeking approval from the United States and Cuban governments to explore shooting a portion of the next installment of the Fast & Furious series in Cuba.”
Both Variety and The Hollywood Reporter also add that the production will also shoot in New York and Atlanta, Georgia, plus two other locations in Russia and Iceland. These movies are getting to be huge affairs with multiple exotic locations becoming the norm.
Vin Diesel will lead the cast of the new film, along with Jason Statham, Dwayne Johnson, Kurt Russell, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Elsa Pataky and Lucas Black.
Furious 8 will release on April 17th, 2017.
