Walt Disney Pictures are currently reworking all of their animated efforts into new live-action motion pictures. The Jungle Book, The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast are on the way over at the studio, and now it looks like they’re eyeing Emma Stone to star as Cruella de Vil, the iconic villain from 101 Dalmatians, in a new movie that charts her origins.
The Hollywood Reporter says that the actress is in early negotiations to star in the planned movie, which is being written by Kelly Marcel, the talented writer that wrote the superb Saving Mr. Banks.
The film currently has no director set, but the studio are intent on getting this one before the cameras before the year is out. The role of Cruella de Vil has previously been played by Glenn Close in 101 Dalmatians from 1996, and its sequel 102 Dalmatians in 2000, but the character originates from Dodie Smith’s 1956 book, “The Hundred and One Dalmatians.”
More news on this as we get it.
