Back in 2013 The Conjuring took everyone by surprise. The film, directed by James Wan, starred Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as Ed and Lorraine Warren, a married couple who investigate strange happenings. It took a very healthy $319 million worldwide, making it the second highest grossing original horror film in history – The Exorcist sits in first position. It even spawned a spin-off, Annabelle, based on one of the creepy artefacts in the Warren’s museum of weird.
Given all that success a sequel was green lit, and once Wan finished directing Fast and Furious 7 he jumped straight back into the genre in which he made his name. The Conjuring 2 will have audiences journeying into a past case of the Warrens, one based on actual true-life events, as the couple investigate the Enfield haunting.
For those not familiar the story, it will tell the tale of a single parent family who were tormented by a malevolent being during the late seventies in England. The story was recently brought to life for a three-part television mini-series that starred Timothy Spall called The Enfield Haunting. The series started well but petered out, hopefully Wan can rectify those mistakes. The brand new teaser trailer looks hopeful, see for yourself below:
The Conjuring 2 arrives in cinemas on 17th June.
