La La Land first look: Damien Chazelle directs Gosling and Stone

La La Land first look: Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone lead out Damien Chazelle’s glittering follow-up to the Oscar-winning Whiplash.

Entertainment Weekly have proved us with a La La Land first look. The upcoming film is directed by Damien Chazelle, the talented filmmaker that set the world on fire in 2014 with the superb Whiplash. In 2016, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone will be front and centre in his next film, a higher budgeted effort set in Hollywood.

The film tells the story of a jazz pianist named Sebastian (Gosling), who falls for Mia (Stone), an aspiring actress in Los Angeles. Whiplash alumni J. K. Simmons is also along for the ride. Here is plays a character known only as ‘Boss’.

Finn Wittrock, John Legend, Rosemarie DeWitt, and Meagen Fay are also amongst the cast of the movie, which is based on Chazelle’s original screenplay. Jason Fuchs, the screenwriter that brought us this year’s Pan, as well as the 2017 stand-alone Wonder Woman movie, also appears in the film as the character, Carlo.

Up until now, all we have seen scattered around the web have been some set pics from the film with Gosling and Stone in period costume, but Entertainment Weekly dropped the La La Land first look as past of their extensive 2016 preview feature, which you can see below.

La La Land first look

This isn’t the first time Stone and Gosling have been seen on-screen. The duo previously starred opposite one another in the superb Crazy, Stupid, Love a few years back, and the damp squib that ended up being Gangster Squad, a film that really should have been so much better.

La La Land should be the film to reignite the sensational chemistry that the duo displayed in Crazy, Stupid, Love, with the film debuting in cinemas around the world from 15th July, 2016.

Lionsgate will distrubute the film next summer.

We’ll bring you more on La La Land as we get it.
