Kurt Russell reveals that he’ll need to watch Guardians Of The Galaxy before he talks about joining the sequel.
Kurt Russell has been long-rumoured to be attached or at least in talks to join the about-to-start-shooting Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, but it seems that there’s one small snag; he hasn’t seen the first movie yet.
Speaking to the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Russell said the following about his rumoured casting (possibly as Starlord’s Dad).
“I literally got a phone call two days ago about this,” Russell told HSC. “I’ve never seen ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’. I don’t know anything about it. I’m one of the four idiots that’s never seen it. Many times I’ve heard ‘That’s a really fun movie, a really good movie [with] great characters.’ I don’t know it.”
He continued: “I didn’t realize that the man [James Gunn] had written and directed it. So we talked to each other on the phone and I just had to be honest and say, ‘Thank you for considering me, I have to read it, and I have to watch the movie because I can’t bring anything for you. I’ve got nothing to offer here.’ So, I’m amazed to get asked about this because everybody knows more about it than I do.”
Rumour is that Guardians 2 will shoot in February with Marvel Studios and Disney looking at a 2017 release date for the highly anticipated sequel.
The first movie received rapturous applause when it was released in 2014, both critically an indeed commercially, taking in a whopping $770 million around the world. It made a star of Chris Pratt too, so there’s something else to celebrate.
We’re hoping that Kurt takes time to kick back and slap on the Guardians DVD over the Christmas break, and ultimately signs up for the sequel which already has a release date set for May 2017.
More news as we get it.
