Everybody Wants Some trailer lands – Richard Linklater’s spiritual follow-up to Dazed and Confused

The Everybody Wants Some trailer has landed. The film is Richard Linklater‘s unofficial, spiritual follow-up to his break out movie Dazed and Confused, and is due to hit cinemas next year.

The Everybody Wants some trailer features The Knack’s classic My Sharona, just one of the many iconic tracks that will reportedly make it into the movie.

The film revolves around a group of college baseball players who navigate their way through the freedoms and responsibilities of unsupervised adulthood.

As the trailer was released, Linklater, high off of his success with last year’s Boyhood, commented on the similarities between this and his brilliant 1990s film.

“If you look at Mitch, Wiley Wiggins’s character in Dazed who pitches in that pony league game, this is him, four years later, going off to college. Say he got better at baseball and he’s off to college. It would be right then — 1980.” He said to Yahoo! Movies.

As for the soundtrack, well, the director chipped in on that too. “I’m reclaiming songs like ‘Rapper’s Delight’ and ‘My Sharona’ – you know, songs from ’79 and’80 that people have been making fun of for a while. I’m back to the original intent of those songs, like what they felt like then. What a revelation ‘Rapper’s Delight’ was back in the day. We weren’t making fun of it. It was new.”

The film has a US street date of April 2016, with the UK getting it on May 13th, 2016. Blake Jenner, Ryan Guzman, Tyler Hoechlin, Wyatt Russell and Zoey Deutch star with Linklater directing from his own screenplay.
