Best Visual Effects Oscar: Nominees whittled down to just 10.
The ten finalists for the Best Visual Effects Oscar have been revealed by the Academy Of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. The great news is that this year’s biggest movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has made the cut, along with the other two big openers of the year, Avengers: Age Of Ultron and Jurassic World.
Coming along with them are Ant-Man, Ex Machina, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian, The Revenant, Tomorrowland and The Walk. These will obviously be narrowed down once again – to just five – when the rest of the nominations are revealed in January. Members of the VFX branch of The Academy are invited to view 10-minute excerpts from each of the finalists on January 9. The final five nominations will be voted for after that.
The nominations will be announced with the other categories on January 14th, with the Oscars themselves dished out on February 28 at a lavish ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
As always, we’ll be there every step of the way with coverage all of the way up to February 28th.
