Much has been spoken over the past year about an Indiana Jones reboot, with names such as Chris Pratt having their prospective fedoras thrown in the ring. However it seems the original whip-cracker is having none of it.
In an interview on ITV’s Jonathan Ross Show to promote The Force Awakens Harrison Ford revealed discussions are still going on between himself, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas.
We’re working on it. We’re working on a couple of ideas and hopefully they’ll gel.
Ford also expressed his gratitude to the Star Wars franchise for establishing the career he went on to forge across four decades, though he couldn’t resist cracking a joke about being in it for the money.
With many stars of yesteryear making a packet from resurrecting old characters, maybe the veteran actor has decided there’s gold in them nostalgia-tinted hills. After all he appeared alongside comeback “kids” Stallone and Schwarzenegger in The Expendables 3 and putting Han Solo’s tunic back on is a sight many fans never thought they’d see.
His last appearance as Dr Jones was in 2008’s Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull, where he pushed it a bit age-wise. But am I going to complain about Ford’s keenness to return to one of his defining roles? You bet your Sankara Stones I’m not.
Steve is a journalist and comedian who enjoys American movies of the 70s, Amicus horror compendiums, Doctor Who, Twin Peaks, Naomi Watts and sitting down. His short fiction has been published as part of the Iris Wildthyme range from Obverse Books.
