Anchorman 3 plot: Ron Burgundy would have taken on the Internet.
There will be no Anchorman 3, sadly. Though Adam Mckay, the genius who brough the first two movies to the screen has been spilling details on what might have been as some Anchorman 3 plot details have been mentioned. It looks like Will Ferrell’s Ron Burgundy may have taken on the Internet and bloggers if a movie had gone ahead.
Speaking to Yahoo while promoting his new movie, a drama with Ryan Gosling and Steve Carrell, The Big Short (released in the Uk in January), McKay had this to say
“That was what we kind of talked about. We talked about doing one that was about the rise of the new media”, McKay said.
“I also thought there was something to the idea – and who knows, maybe we will do one some day – I also thought it’d be cool to have Ron Burgundy get embedded in the Iraq War. We kicked around that idea. But we’ve never got that serious about it, but it would have to be the next stage of what the media has become”.
“I think it’s the Internet”, he added. “The only thing is by then Burgundy would be getting pretty old. So maybe it’s a movie we make in 10 years, when Will’s aged up and it actually makes sense that you can set it in 1997 or ’98”.
Anchorman 2 was released back in 2013 and made about $170 million from a $50 million budget, so the movie are profitable and have a great fan backing. MacKay has also said in the past that one should never say never when it comes to sequels, and who knows, once the dust has settled and if the films stand up to repeat viewings (which they both do), we may see another.
