We take a look at the new Doctor Who LEGO Tardis set

Doctor Who LEGO TARDIS set: TV tie-in arrives in stores on December 1st.

It’s no surprise that LEGO are figuratively flying at the moment with smart sets recently released for the likes of Ghostbusters, Guardians of the Galaxy, Scooby Doo and more (check out our Best of Brick feature for our current faves). They’ve also wasted no time travelling off into a Galaxy far, far away with new Star Wars selections and so all film fans have a big reason to start getting seriously excited. Saying all this, we’ve always backed a further expansion into space and time and Doctor Who is no exception. This new Doctor Who LEGO TARDIS set is a huge stride forwards as we step inside the Doctor’s famous Blue Box and, with the help of LEGO Ideas, they’ve made something that’s definitely bigger on the inside in both style and vision.

So what’s so special? This Doctor Who LEGO TARDIS set was originally a fan-designed submission created by Andrew Clark. It then went through a rigorous process of fan voting and LEGO make-ability. After 10,000 votes and specifics finalised, the set has been launched and the attention to detail is what makes it unique. Rather than falling into the trap of made parts, it uses a lot of the regular pieces alongside some Who-related printed ones.

There’s a total of 623 pieces included and so suitable for someone older, or experienced, to help get the fiddly bits together as it is a delicate set once completed. But whatever your age, if you’re a Doctor fan… you want this TARDIS.

There’s Matt Smith’s 11th Doctor with a Fez, Capaldi’s 12th, Clara looking very smart alongside a super creepy Weeping Angel, two Dalek’s, two sonic screwdrivers, and then that beautiful TARDIS interior console room complete with movable bits and steps. Each figure has the now-customary changeable faces, that you can turn around, and gives a little extra to the characters.

The other clever bit of LEGO engineering is how the interior console connects and detaches from the blue box itself. See our images for how it can be both a complete set and then separate to become the iconic square box we all know and love.  If you can hook up some small blue LED’s as well, you can get the middle bit to life! It’s pretty darn cool and I’ve no shame in sharing some good love with this one. Just a thought.

It’s surprising something like this hasn’t been properly made before to be honest, as it fits well with the fan base and LEGO fans as a whole. Measuring over 41cm high, it’s 16cm wide and 23cm deep – all approx – but they’ve really created the closest smaller version that’s an authentic replica.

Priced at (RRP) £49.99, the Doctor Who LEGO TARDIS set is available from December 1st and won’t disappoint fans who fancy adding it to their lists or as a surprise gift.
