British director Ben Wheatley, whose next feature High Rise will debut in 2016, will take to remaking the classic 1953 movie The Wages Of Fear. Deadline report the news of Wheatley’s intentions to co-write and direct the film, which has alredy had two remakes since its original release including William Friedkin’s Sorcerer, which is widely considered to be a masterpiece.
Wheatley’s ‘Wages Of Fear’ will be produced by David Lancaster, who comes hot off of recent releases Whiplash, Nightcrawler and Drive, and be co-written by frequent collaborator, and wife Amy Jump.
Here’s the brief plot of the original 1953 movie:
In the South American jungle, supplies of nitroglycerine are needed at a remote oil field. The oil company pays four men to deliver the supplies in two trucks. A tense rivalry develops between the two sets of drivers on the rough remote roads where the slightest jolt can result in death.
Wheatley also has Free Fire on the cards before all of the that. The film, which stars (deep breath) Brie Larson, Armie Hammer, Cillian Murphy, Jack Reynor, Sam Riley, Noah Taylor, Sharlto Copley, Michael Smiley, Enzo Cilenti and Babou Ceesay, has just had its US rights sold at the AFM for $3 million. Martin Scorsese is executive-producing that movie, which should see a release in 2016/ early 2017.
