Doug Liman in final talks to direct the ‘Gambit’ movie

The Gambit movie has been in development for a long time over at Fox. We have a star in Channing Tatum, but since last month we haven’t had a director after Rupert Wyatt left the X-Men spin-off project. Well, it looks like Fox have potentially found his replacement in Edge Of Tomorrow helmer Doug Liman.

Liman, who has also directed the likes of Go, Swingers, Jumper and films with more that one-word titles like Mr & Mrs. Smith and The Bourne Identity, has a lot of projects on the go at the moment, including a couple with Tom Cruise (Mena, Luna Park). However, it looks like he might jump on the Gambit ship to get the movie on track for its scheduled release date of October 7, 2016. That seems a little ambitious with it being like, November 2016, right? Still, the studio (Fox) still haven’t moved it, and Liman is in final talks to join the big-budget movie about the famous card-throwing mutant.

The source article over here at The Hollywood Reporter says that British director Joe Cornish, Iron Man 3‘s Shane Black and even Straight Outta Compton‘s F. Gary Gray were also mentioned to potentially take charge of Gambit before Liman’s name came up.

Fox will release the next X-Men movie, X-Men Apocalypse next summer. We’re expecting Gambit to feature in 2017, though we certainly hope we’re wrong and it is delivered by next October.

More news as we get it.
