Disney are in the middle of remaking all of their animated movies into live-action films, including The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, and the recently released Cinderella. Well, Universal are also looking at the classic fairy stories, and they are planning an adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid. Over the weekend, the studio have reportedly cast the hugely talented Chloe Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass)in the lead role.
The story of a mermaid who gives up her beautiful voice in an attempt to be with the handsome prince she loves.
In additional news, the film also has attracted the writing talents of Richard Curtis (Love, Actually), who is in negotiations to join the movie.
There isn’t a director attached presently (Sofia Coppola was at one point-set to helm), but we’re sure that Universal will be filling that void very soon.
The hugely talented production house Working Title are behind the movie. The British company has a superb history with Universal, including this year’s Legend and films like About Time and Notting Hill, both of which were scripted by Curtis. Curtis recently said that he may have moved away from directing, but we’d love to see him take on something like this as he has a superb history in working with comedic love stories, which The Little Mermaid could very well turn out to be.
More news on this as we get it.
