The Six Billion Dollar Man has been in the works for quite a while now. Mark Wahlberg has been attached to star as the lead, Steve Austin more most of that time, and now, finally, it looks like the film will see the light of day.

The movie, which will be based on the 1970s show The Six Million Dollar Man, will be released in cinemas on December 22nd, 2017. We assume that shooting will start next year.

The film will be directed by Damián Szifron, who also wrote the script.

“I’m thrilled to assemble The Six Billion Dollar Man for the big screen with the likes of [producer] Bob Weinstein and Damián Szifron. We look forward to creating a Steve Austin for the 21st century”. Wahlberg said of the official announcment.

Here’s the plot of the old TV show, which first aired in 1973 with Lee majors in the title role.

Steve Austin is an astronaut who is seriously injured when his spaceship crashes. Handsome and athletic, Austin undergoes a government-sanctioned surgery, which rebuilds several of Steve’s body parts with machine parts, making him cyborglike. When Steve recovers, his machine parts enable him to have superhuman strength and speed, as well as other powers. With these powers, Steve goes to work for the Office of Scientific Information, battling evil for the good of mankind.
