Updated: Deadline have just updated us with air dates.

The first original series developed specifically for CBS All Access, is set to premiere in January 2017. It will introduce new characters seeking imaginative new worlds and new civilizations, while exploring the dramatic contemporary themes that have been a signature of the franchise since its inception in 1966, according to the network. It will launch with a special preview broadcast on the CBS network. The premiere episode and all subsequent first-run episodes will then be available exclusively in the U.S. on CBS All Access. The franchise will also be distributed concurrently for television and multiple platforms around the world by CBS Studios International.

Some breaking news from Hollywood. It has just been announced that Alex Kurtzman is set to produce a new Star Trek TV show over at CBS. The project has been in the planning for quite some time, but it looks like its full speed ahead on the new show as Deadline have just confirmed that it will go ahead.

Kurtzman was heavily involved in the JJ Abrams Star Trek movies with partner Bob Orci, but now it looks like Kurtzman will fly solo on the TV project. There’s not a lot more detail other than that, but we’re sure that something could be in the mix to coincide with the Star Trek 50th Anniversary next year.

Star Trek Beyond, the third film in the modern series of Trek movies will debut next summer.
