The Raid remake loses star Taylor Kitsch and director Patrick Hughes.
The planned American remake of The Raid is in trouble, according to sources. The Tracking Board is reporting that the film’s lead Taylor Kitsch has left the project, and director Patrick Hughes is no longer attached. Hughes, who also directed The Expendables 3, will make his true story The Storm Warning his next project.
The website reports that The Raid remake is no longer at Screen Gems, and that XYZ Films is now the sole production company on the film.’
Frank Grillo is also attached to the film, and we’re presuming that’s still the case. We spoke with the actor all of the way back in late 2014, and even back then, the date for a production-start kept getting pushed.
Here’s a clipping from that article.
THN: You have recently been announced for THE RAID remake. The first film was full of fight sequences, have you been practicing your moves?
Grillo: You know they keep pushing the date of the film for that exact reason. They’re trying to find the right actors for the piece, find the right actors who can do the physical work. Because they won’t make the movie unless it is as good as, or better than, the original, because the original RAID was genius. So we’re in the process now of trying to put the cast together and find the right people to do both.
So what now? A new director and star is needed.
The film is based on the 2011 Indonesian movie, which was directed by Gareth Evans, who also followed-up it up with a kick-ass sequel last year, who serves as executive producer and has even had a hand in the new screenplay.
The hunt is now on for that new star and more importantly, a new director for The Raid remake. We hope they get things together pretty soon as we’d love to see what Hollywood does with this already pretty perfect movie.
