Ever since those inanimate lamps came to life, Pixar have always found a special place deep in the emotive heart of animation, so it comes as no surprise that their, quite literal, venture inside the individual emotions of young Riley has struck the right chord with so many.
Based in Headquarters, the control centre inside 11-year-old Riley’s mind, Inside Out follows five Emotions who are hard at work, led by light-hearted optimist Joy (Amy Poehler), whose mission is to make sure Riley stays happy. Fear (Bill Hader) heads up safety, Anger (Lewis Black) ensures all is fair and Disgust (Mindy Kaling) prevents Riley from getting poisoned—both physically and socially. Sadness (Phyllis Smith) isn’t exactly sure what her role is, and frankly, neither is anyone else. When Riley’s family relocates to a scary new city, the Emotions are on the job, eager to help guide her through her troubles.
To celebrate the release of Disney Pixar’s Inside Out, directed by Pete Docter, on Blu-ray and DVD on November 23, we’ve got this exclusive special features clip called Construction that takes a closer look at the process.
