Some big news has come out of Hollywood this morning as it has been revealed that a fourth film in The Expendables series has been given the green light. Sylvester Stallone and his motley crew of acion heroes are to return for The Expendables 4, with a shoot set for next year.
Variety is reporting that the film could have a budget of around $100 million, which would make it the most expensive film in the series so far. The series will be headed for China, probably due to the last film’s huge success over there (it made $78 million in China as opposed to just about $40 million in North America).
“Expendables 4” will shoot in 2016 and be delivered in 2017. Neither director nor cast have yet been announced, though the picture is expected to have maintain its all-action star formula. It is to be produced on a budget of over $100 million.
“What seems to work in their favour in China, is that these movies are good old-fashioned shoot ’em up entertainment,” executive producer Steven Paul told the trade.
The China pre-sale is said to be worth around $25 million, including an Antonio Banderas and Ben Kingsley action vehicle named Security.
So far, The Expendables movies have grossed a whopping $786 million across the world with the last film, The Expendables 3, getting around $206 million of that.
An all-female version, called The Expendabelles, is also said to still be in development.
