Pretty much every actor that starred in the original Ghostbusters movie is returning for at least a cameo in Paul Feig‘s upcoming reboot, including Bill Murray, but one that won’t be appearing is Rick Moranis, who reportedly turned down the chance to appear in the film.
Moranis said no to Feig, and told The Hollywood Reporter why.
“I wish them well. I hope it’s terrific. But it just makes no sense to me. Why would I do just one day of shooting on something I did 30 years ago?” He said.
Moranis took an 18-year hiatus from acting after his wife, Ann, died from breast cancer in 1997 to focus on raising his two young children, but according to the interview with the trade paper, is now wanting to return to work.
“I took a break, which turned into a longer break,” he says. “But I’m interested in anything that I would find interesting. I still get the occasional query about a film or television role,” he added. “…and as soon as one comes along that piques my interest, I’ll probably do it. [But Ghostbusters] didn’t appeal to me.”
Dan Aykroyd, Murray, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts and Sigourney Weaver all appear in the all-female Ghostbusters reboot, which will be released next July.
