The new trailer for the Sherlock special that will air on the BBC this winter has been released. The one-off, which will star Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, will be set in Victorian London, and will air before the year’s out, though the BBC aren’t committed to a specific date as yet.
Writer Stephen Moffat recently detailed why the show has been given the Victorian setting in an interview at the Television Critics Association summer press tour.
“The main difference I would say, the only temperature change moving it from Victorian and modern is ghost stories work better in the Victorian setting,” he said. “Doyle stories that are scary chillers we haven’t done much. Victorian era gives us a chance to do a creepy one, a scary one.”
