Remake of The Exorcist in the works over at Morgan Creek following library sale?
It is one of those movies which should absolutely never be remade, but it looks like the folks at production outfit Morgan Creek may be looking to remake The Exorcist.
The rumours of a remake come from the news, that has just been announced, that Morgan Creek are looking to sell their film library, which consists of over 70 movies. They include True Romance, The Last Of The Mohicans, and Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves, amongst dozens of others. The article from which this news stems from, says that the new owners of the library will be able to remake any of the Morgan Creek movies contained within it; bar five. They are: Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Major League, Young Guns, Flying Tigers and, yes, The Exorcist.
Deadline quotes Morgan Creek CEO Jim Robinson as saying: “I’m selling the library strictly for economic reasons. It will go back into the company to fund more production. We have a number of properties that we are looking to move forward on.”
Here’s the next bit, which is key…
Could a remake of Major League and Ace be in the works? “Yes,” said Robinson, who said that ideas are being tossed right now for both those and The Exorcist.
So, there you have it. The trade adds that as part of the deal, Morgan Creek will pay a percentage of the gross profit of any of the aforementioned remakes to the new owner of the library.
Morgan Creek are still actively producing new movies, and have a biopic based on the life of Tupac Shakur currently in the works. We’re guessing that following the success of Straight Outta Compton last month, they’ll be hoping to get that into theatres as quickly as possible.
So, what do we all think of this news? A remake of The Exorcist? This can;t be good.
