Star Wars theatrical cut Blu-Ray on the way?

The original theatrical cuts of the Star Wars trilogy could be coming to the home formats.

The original, non-special edition versions of the classic trilogy have long been rumoured tp be returning to the home formats, and now some new rumblings have surfaced after filmmaker John Landis mentioned to Empire magazine in a Q+A last night that George Lucas himself revealed to him that they (as in Disney), will be released the Star Wars theatrical cut Blu-Ray, sometime in the near future.

Empire revealed the news of the potential Star Wars theatrical cut Blu-Ray on their Twitter account.

…and…

This is fairly big news for Star Wars fans as we head into the onslaught of new movies that are going to be heading our way with Star Wars: The Force Awakens releasing on December 17th.

The Star Wars trilogy special editions have so far been the only versions that have been available on Blu-Ray, but fans have been screaming for the original un-doctored versions for some time now. Lucas has so far refused, but obviously now Disney hold the rights to the saga as they own Lucasfilm.

Could we be seeing them hit in time for Christmas? We have heard that Disney were planning on bringing the original films back to cinemas screens leading up to the release of Episode VII, but things have gone a bit quiet on that front. We’d welcom a return to the big screen to get anticipation going even more. After all, The Empire Strikes Back is nearing completing a hugely successful run at this year’s Secret Cinema event in London…

We’ll keep you posted as this develops.
