James Gunn shuts down Guardians 2 rumours

James Gunn: No Hulk or Captain Marvel in Guardians 2

James Gunn: No Hulk or Captain Marvel in Guardians 2

James Gunn took to Twitter yesterday to take part in quite a lengthy Q+A for questions relating to pretty much anything, but more than most referred to Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, which is in the pre-production stages. Gunn was surprisingly responsive to most of the questions, and here are a few tidbits that we pulled out of the chat.

  • Rob Zombie could return to do some voice work on Guardians 2; as he has on every Gunn movie to date.
  • His cat definitely won’t be in the film (his dog was in the first movie). Gunn said: “No. My cat would despise being on set. My dog has fun acting. It’s about what’s good for them, not me.”
  • Iron Man is his favourite Marvel movie.
  • Sean Gunn, James’ brother, will be playing Rocket once again on set for the sequel, as well as the role of Kraglin.
  • Tyler Bates is currently writing the film’s new soundtrack. Gunn revealed that they actually play it on set while they shoot the scenes.
  • Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill is the sole human (earthling) character in GOTG2. That rules out any presence of Captain Marvel.
  • The mix tape for Vol. 2 is nearly complete, and they have 12 tracks which they’re currently trying to clear the rights for.
  • There is zero chance you will see Hulk in GotGVol2.
  • There may be a new female team member in the new film: “As I’ve said many times it’s one of my goals to get a higher % of female heroes (and villains) out there. So MAYBE [there will be an addition of a new female character].”

That’s kind of the jist of things from his impromptu Q+A last night, which was conducted following Gunn’s completion of the second draft of the Guardians 2 screenplay. Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 will hit cinemas in May 2017. Hit Gunn’s Twitter feed for more.
