Kate Hudson joins Kung Fu Panda 3

Kate Hudson has replaced Rebel Wilson in the voice cast for the upcoming Dreamworks Animation sequel Kung Fu Panda 3, according to reports.

The Hollywood Reporter shouted out the news of Wilson being replaced in the film as Mei Mei, a brand new character to the franchise who is said to be the female lead. The trade says that Mei Mei is a crazy ribbon-dancing panda who is romantically obsessed with Po (Jack Black).

Angelina Jolie, Seth Rogen and Dustin Hoffman will reprise their roles from the previous movies in this new film, which is due in cinemas next year. J.K. Simmons and Bryan Cranston have also joined the vocal cast.

Here’s the plot.

The casting replacement is a last minute thing, and no reasons have been given for it, but Dreamworks will still aim for that January 29th, 2016 release date. Jennifer Yuh Nelson and Alessandro Carloni direct.

Hudson confirmed the news on her Instagram account.

The Kung Fu Panda movies have been a huge success for Dreamworks. The fist movie in the series made a huge $631 million back in 2008, with the Kung Fu Panda 2 grossing $665 million three years later in 2011.

All of the Kung Fu Panda movies are distrubuted by Paramount Pictures. The third movie will also be distributed by the studio. The film is expected in UK cinemas on March 18th, 2016. We’ll bring you more news on Kung Fu Panda 3 as the release date approaches.
