Colin Trevorrow‘s Jurassic World breaks records tonce again by taking $1 billion mark at the international box-office. The sequel, which is one of the biggest films of the year so far, hit the magic number internationally (everything except domestic numbers) in the fastest time on record, and is only the fourth film of all time to reach the milestone.

Only Avatar, Titanic and this year’s biggest movie Furious 7, have managed to achieve $1 billion in international box-office takings. It has also taken a huge $646 million domestically for a worldwide total of $1.65 billion.

Universal has grossed $6.04 billion ($3.8 billion internationally and $2.1 billion stateside) in 2015, with a few months to go until the end of the year. That smashes the previous record set by Fox in 2014 ($5.53 billion). It has some high-profile movies still on the cards for this year, including this week’s Legend, starring Tom Hardy, and next week’s event movie, Everest.

We loved Jurassic World here at The Hollywood News, and gave it a glowing review back in the summer. Universal are planning a sequel to the film for 2018, with Colin and Derek Trevorrow returning to write the screenplay. A new director will be sought for the new movie, as Trevorrow has opted to jump ship in favour of directing Lucasfilm’s Star Wars Episode IX.
