Just from the tagline and the name alone, you know that Prevertere is going to be one of those love/hate film but do not let its unsubtle surface fool you, because underneath is a film that you’ll unexpectedly enjoy.

The film follows Templeton, a man stuck between thinking with his heart and thinking with another vital organ for a male. As the story unfolds, we find Templeton dealing with a two-year booty call with an Italian woman that he does not know the name of, his dream woman that has promised to have sex with him at least once a year, and his on/off girlfriend of the last few years.

Another thing not to be fooled with when it comes to this film is the idea of an understandable narrative. With the opening scenes, you think you have got the storyline but then it completely throws you off. It takes a little while for the story to finally kick in, but in the end it is worth the wait. If you love the anti-hero journey then Prevertere is the one for you.

Terry Wayne’s portrayal of Templeton is what makes this pretty grubby man most likeable. On screen we can see how his life is going down the pan – jumping from each partner like they are nothing, but you just want him to be happy in the end. It is a huge shame that the scenes between him and Pollyanna McIntosh aren’t explored further because their time together is the real scene-stealer, playing homage to some of those great 90’s indies that director McGuire is clearly a huge fan of.

The film mixes a Bret Easton Ellis solemn storyline and those aforementioned 90’s classics to create an honest movie about a man’s quest to stop being such a fuck up when it comes to love. It hits a few bumps aesthetically, but the story will win you over in the end.

Prevertere is available digitally from 13th October. Head to their official site for more details.
