Mads Mikkelsen in early talks for Doctor Strange villain role – but who is he playing?
Not content with just starring in a Star Wars film, Hannibal alumni Mads Mikkelsen is in early talks for a role in Marvel’s Doctor Strange movie. Mikkelsen will appear in Gareth Edwards’ Star Wars: Rogue One movie in 2016, and now will play an unnamed part in Marvel’s Phase 3 flick.
Variety are reporting the news that Mikkelsen will assume one of the villain roles in the movie, which sees Benedict Cumberbatch star as Stephen Strange.

Everything changes when a car accident limits Strange’s use of his hands, sending him on a maddening quest for a miracle cure. Chiwetel Ejiofor is playing Baron Mordo, another villain in the film, but so far, Mikkelsen’s potential part is unknown, though ScreenRant speculate that the character that he could play could be Dormammu, ‘a Marvel comics book character and mystical being – one whose dark magical abilities even those of Doctor (Stephen) Strange’s. ‘
Tilda Swinton will play the Ancient One in the film, to be directed by Sinister helmer Scott Derrickson, which will go into production very soon.
Mikkelsen has played a number of key villainous parts in the past. Apart from Hannibal, perhaps the ultimate villain, he also appeared as Le Chiffre in director Martin Campbell’s Bond reboot Casino Royale in 2006.
The Danish actor’s role in Rogue One: A Star Wars is said to not be a villain, however.
Doctor Strange will be released in cinemas on November 4, 2016.
