Jason Mitchell, who plays Easy-E in this weekend’s big opener in the UK, Straight Outta Compton, is in negotiations to join the cast of Kong: Skull Island. If he takes on the job, he will join the already cast Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson and fellow ‘Compton’ star Corey Hawkins in the film, which kicks off shooting very soon.
Not much is known about the flick yet, other than that it follows “a team of explorers who venture into the mysterious, creature-laden isle that is also the home of the king of the apes.”
Mitchell will play ‘an easy-going polit’ in the flick, which also has Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Wilkinson, John C. Reilly and Toby Kebbell up for various parts.
Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer) will direct the film from a script by John Gatins and Max Borenstein. Thomas Tull (Godzilla, The Dark Knight, Pacific Rim) and Jon Jashni (Godzilla, Warcraft) will produce and Alex Garcia (Godzilla) will executive produce.
Universal are behind the film, who also made Straight Outta Compton, so it will come at no surprise that two of that film’s stars are up for roles in this. ‘Compton’ has made $100 million at the US box-office, where it still sits at the number one spot, with a huge UK roll-out planned for this weekend. I kinda liked it, as you may tell from my review over here and Mitchell was easily one of the best parts about it. I recommend you check it out at your earliest opportunity.
Kong: Skull Island is scheduled for a March 10, 2017 release.
