Rebecca Ferguson has joined the cast of the big-screen adaptation of the Paula Hawkins novel The Girl On The Train. Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation star Ferguson joins the already cast Emily Blunt in the film, which leaves just one major female role to cast.

Ferguson will play the role of Anna in the adaptation, which is set up with Tate Taylor (The Help) directing. Blunt will assume the role of the unreliable narrator.

The Girl On The Train – the book, has been heavily compared the book to Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl, which was of course turned into a movie from David Fincher to decent reviews last year.

Here’s the plot description from Amazon.

[quote_box_center]Rachel catches the same commuter train every morning. She knows it will wait at the same signal each time, overlooking a row of back gardens. She’s even started to feel like she knows the people who live in one of the houses. ‘Jess and Jason’, she calls them. Their life – as she sees it – is perfect. If only Rachel could be that happy.

And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough.

Now everything’s changed. Now Rachel has a chance to become a part of the lives she’s only watched from afar.

Now they’ll see; she’s much more than just the girl on the train…[/quote_box_center]

The news of Ferguson’s casting takes her out of the running of the planned Gambit movie, which she was shortlisted for alongside Spectre star Lea Seydoux and Mad Max: Fury Road‘s Abbey Lee.

Ferguson will next be seen in the Stephen Frears-directed Florence Foster Jenkins, with Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant.
