Prepare to see some hot bods on the beach as another muscled heart-throb has joined the cast of the planned Baywatch movie. Joining Dwayne Johnson will be Bad Neighbours star Zac Efron who will don the famous red shorts in the proposed R-rated comedy which is being directed by Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses).

The Hollywood Reporter says that the new version of the hit 1990s TV show ‘centers on a by-the-book and very serious lifeguard (Johnson) who is forced to team up with a young rule-flouting hothead (Efron) in order to save their beach from environmental destruction at the hands of an oil tycoon.’

It will be raunchy, and it will be funny.

Shooting kicks off on the movie in February 2016, with a likely 2017 release. Baywatch will be preceeded by another Bad Neighbours movie in which Efron will return with Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne, Dirty Grandpa with Robert De Niro, and the comedy comedy Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates.

We can’t wait for all that slo-mo beach running. Expect more cast members to be added very soon.

Baywatch, the TV series, ran from 1989-1999 and was a global phenomenon. Headed up by David Hasselhoff, the show was also a springboard for sensation Pamela Anderson. Baywatch revolved around the work of a team of lifeguards, headed by Hasselhoff’s Mitch Buchanon, and their interpersonal relationships, with plots usually centering on dangers related to beach and other activities pertinent to the California (later Hawaii) beach lifestyle.

We assume that Johnson will assume the role of Buchanon in the new movie, which looks like another sure-fire hit for the wrestler turned acting superstar.

Efron will next be seen as an aspiring DJ in We Are Your Friends, which is released later this month.
