Exclusive: William Sadler wants in on ‘Bill and Ted 3’

Bill and TedBill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure and Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey have a soft spot in all our hearts. Everyone has a favourite between the two, and although I myself am a sap for the first film, there is no denying that William Sadler as the Grim Reaper in the second film was inspired casting.

Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey ended in such a way that it seemed that the story had all been tied up, yet the last couple of years have been littered with rumours that a third film was in the works. Leads Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves has both vocally expressed an interest in another outing but they of course weren’t the only members of World Peace inducing band Wyld Stallyns; they also had the Grim Reaper himself.

Recently we spoke exclusively with William Sadler and enjoyed a lovely meal with him. The intimate setting gave us the perfect opportunity to reflect on his entire career from Die Hard to Roswell, to whether he prefers Marvel or DC (he’s appeared in both). The full in depth interview will be online soon, but for now here’s a sneaky snippet giving an update on the progress of Bill and Ted 3.

The Grim Reaper was an integral part of Wyld Stallyns by the end of Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey, so we asked Sadler if he’d be interested in returning for a third movie.

“I would do it in a heartbeat.” Sadler told us.  I would love to, and I’ve told them. I think Alex [Winter] said that the Grim Reaper is in the script that they’re working on. But as I understand it, the biggest problem to overcome is that now that George Carlin [who played Rufus] has passed, because he was the catalyst, he was their host or their guide on these journeys that they took.”

“He always turned out to be the one who was helping them along, and now that he’s gone, you have to write around him, or something. I haven’t seen a script, I hear there is one, but I loved the project. If they get it together to do it, I’d be happy to come on-board.”

It’s taking it’s time but it seems that this is a project that isn’t out of steam yet, fingers crossed the time-travelling duo will get to party on once more.
