New Mortal Kombat movie in the works at New Line with James Wan producing.
Hot off of directing one of the year’s biggest hits, James Wan is now looking to breathe new life into an age-old video game, Mortal Kombat. The Tracking Board are reporting that Wan is looking to produce the new movie, which is set up over at New Line and Broken Road.
TTB report that Mortal Kombat: Legacy scripter Oren Uziel and The Expendables writer Dave Callaham are penning the screenplay that ‘centers around a seemingly harmless guy who realizes his potential when he finds himself caught in the middle of a cross-dimensional battle between the warriors of Earth and the monsters of Outworld. Now, in order to stop the world from total destruction, he must win the martial arts tournament known as ‘Mortal Kombat’.’
There have been two previous Mortal Kombat movies – 1995’s Mortal Kombat, which grosses just over $122 million worldwide, and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation is 1997, which made a disappointing $52 million upon its release. The video games remain a hugely popular series after its conception back in 1992 by Midway Games. There have been 21 different Mortal Kombat releases since then, including a crossover with DC in 2008.
Let’s hope that the film goes a little darker than the previous two movies, and that Wan influences with his trademark scares and oodles of gore.

Gore yes! Bad language a must. Johnny Cage not dying due some stupid lawsuit a massive must. That right Johnny cage was killed off because the original model had it in his contract to be in a movie and they didn’t cast him so he sued and then MK said screw him and killed him off. Super lame. Anyways Rated R is a must and this time less talking and more carnage. Again no Killing Johnny cage. Its been enough time. Let it go.
