Prometheus 2 will start shooting in January

Prometheus 2

I can’t think of a movie that has divided critics, and my mates, more than Prometheus. The ultimate Marmite movie that you either loved or loathed in equal measure. The film did pretty well at the box-office (it is the most successful film in the Alien franchise with worldwide takings sat at over $400 million), and a sequel has been in the works for a little while, but we’re hearing via Total Film that Ridley Scott is planning to shoot the movie in January of next year, supposedly for a 2017 release.

We’re also hearing that both Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace are set to return, though we can’t say the same of the famous Xenomorph.

“The beast is done,” Scott said in a recent interview. “Cooked. I got lucky meeting Giger all those years ago. It’s very hard to repeat that. I just happen to be the one who forced it through because they said it’s obscene. They didn’t want to do it and I said, ‘I want to do it, it’s fantastic.’ But after four, I think it wears out a little bit. There’s only so much snarling you can do. I think you’ve got to come back with something more interesting. And I think we’ve found the next step. I thought the Engineers were quite a good start.”

Prometheus 2 was set for a March 2016 bow, which is definitely off the cards now, but we’re sure that Fox will eye a tentpole 2017 release for the next chapter in this interesting universe.

Similarly, Neill Blomkamp has his Alien movie still in development at the studio, though his film is a potential reboot/ sequel rather than the prequel universe in which Prometheus is set. Read more about that movie here.
