Game Of Thrones ending after season eight? HBO exec. says that we’ll get at least three more series of the hit show.
It looks like HBO are going to string out their headline series Game Of Thrones to eight seasons, despite only saying that it would run to seven.
The news comes from HBO themselves and their programming president Michael Lombardo. Entertainment Weekly reports:
“Seven-seasons-and-out has never been the [internal] conversation,” Lombardo said at the Television Critics Association’s press tour. “The question is: How much beyond seven are we going to do? Obviously we’re shooting six now, hopefully discussing seven. [Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss are] feel like there’s two more years after six. I would always love for them to change their minds, but that’s what we’re looking at right now.”
So that’s at least three more seasons of the show. There is talk of a prequel series to follow though, and Lombardo briefly touched upon that.
“I would be open to anything that Dan and David wanted to do—about Game of Thrones, or any subject matter,”
“It really would depend fully on what they wanted to do. I think you’re right, there’s enormous storytelling to be mined in a prequel, if George and Dan and David decide they want to tackle that. At this point, all the focus is on the next few years of the show. We haven’t had any conversations about that at this point.”
Game Of Thrones season six will air in 2016.
#GameofThrones will prob go 8 seasons, and a prequel sounds pretty likely after that, @HBO programming prez Michael Lombardo said. #TCA15
