Michael Sheen will join Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt in Sony’s big-budget sci-fi movie Passengers. The studio have had this one in the works for quite a while, and with two box-office heavyweights on board, with some quite hefty change exchanging hands between the pair of the, the project finally got on track earlier this year with The Imitation Game helmer Morten Tyldum directing from a script by Jon Spaights (Prometheus).

Here’s the plot.

Passengers follows a man (Chris Pratt) who finds himself woken ninety years early from cryogenic sleep on board a colony ship partway through its decades long journey through space. Faced with the prospect of spending decades alone he decides to wake up another passenger (Jennifer Lawrence) which sparks a unique romance between the two.

The great news about Sheen’s casting is that he is playing a robot in the film that takes the same journey as Pratt and Lawrence’s character.

Despite Prometheus, of which I wasn’t a huge fan, I’m looking forward to seeing Passengers. Sony clearly have a lot of faith in the film by sinking a huge budget into it (Lawrence and Pratt are getting over $30 million between them, according to reports), and Spaights’ script was on the famous Blacklist for quite some time. Could be interesting.
