We are just a few short months away from that October 2015 date that featured in time-travel classic Back to the Future Part II. The film showed us what people living in the 1980’s thought the world would look like in what, to them, was the future. Sadly, although we don’t have true hoverboards, we do still have a very special occasion to mark.

Way back in the year 1985 Robert Zemeckis, with help from Steven Spielberg, created Back to the Future, a wonderful science fiction movie that featured a time-travelling Delorean. The film captured the imagination of a generation and subsequent generations thanks to its ‘outta time’ feel and tone.

This weekend sees London’s Olympia Hall taken over by comic book and movie fanatics for the annual London Film and Comic Con, and it is at this event that the cast have chosen to combine and commemorate this rather big milestone. In attendance at the show are Ricky Dean LoganFrancis Lee McCain, Claudia Wells,  Marc McClureJames TolkanDonald FuliloveHarry Waters JrJeffrey Weissman, as well as Lea ThompsonChristopher Lloyd and Marty McFly Michael J. Fox.

Ahead of the weekend’s festivities THN were invited to attend a special press conference which included a special Q and A with Christopher LloydMichael J. Fox and Lea Thompson. Here are some of the highlights:

Michael, what is it about Marty McFly that, out of all of your characters, makes him most iconic?

MICHAEL J. FOX: Well I think that’s down to Bob [Zemeckis] who created a really interesting character. Just like he did with Chris. It’s a movie with a tentative exposition, and you get Chris going (shouts excitedly) and all that stuff is brilliant. With Marty it’s his curiosity, and he’s there to take in what’s happening just like the audience.

What memory stands out most from your time on the series?

LEA THOMPSON: For me it was that whole car sequence where we [me and Michael] had to kiss and was ravishing me. That whole sequence for me was really, really important because I had to fall out of love with him [Marty], I had to be ravished by Biff and then I had to fall back in love with George. I remember how nervous Bob Z was; these were big plot points we had to sell by acting. And I got to kiss Michael and that was fun.

It’s 2015 and we don’t have hoverboards, what do you feel most let down by?

MJF: The only thing the movie got right was my receding hairline, they nailed that.

LT:I still have small boobs. That didn’t work out for me. I think they were going for a comedy vision of 2015.

MJF: It [2015] seemed so far away.

LT: I know!

How was it working with not one, but two great Hollywood Directors? You had Robert Zemeckis directing you, but also executive producer Steven Spielberg?

MJF: Well Bob is an incredible force of nature. He’s an amazing guy and he’s an amazing energy. The thing with Bob is, if we couldn’t figure out how to do something, he would stay there all night until he figured it out. Something as simple as a prop in the wrong place, he’s a stickler for details. Steven was the perfect mentor for him. Steven never imposed himself on the process and he was just hanging around in the background and had a great relationship with Bob.

As well as giving fans the opportunity to meet their heroes the event, run by organisation Showmasters, is trying to raise money for Michael J. Fox‘s charity The Michael J. Fox Foundation. The endeavour, simply titled ‘Up to 88’ is a drive for fans of the films and actors to help raise $88,000 for the worthy cause which helps those who are suffering with Parkinson’s disease. As of Friday evening during the press conference the total was around the $50,000 mark. Should you wish to get involved, visit here for all the details.
