Stephen King’s It takes on Mama director

Mama director Andy Muschietti has replaced Cary Fukunaga on the It remake over at Warner Bros.

stephen-kings-itIt was a great disappointment when Cary Fukunaga dropped out of the director’s seat for Stephen King’s It. He had stuck with the project, promised us two parts, and was rumoured to be very close to signing surprise choice Will Poulter in the role of Pennywise the clown. However, with suggestions that he wasn’t getting the budget he felt necessary for such a mammoth undertaking, Fukunaga left the project.

Now New Line have picked up a new director in the form of Andy MuschiettiMuschietti is best known for his 2013 horror film Mama which was a very atmospheric and quite unsettling film.It proved a hit with audiences, making $150 million worlwide off a $15 million budget.

Stephen King’s It will be a huge task for anyone to take on, especially given the size of the book. In the 1990s we saw a pretty decent TV miniseries adaptation, that gave Tim Curry a role to rival even his most iconic part. His Pennywise was something of pure terror, especially since he seemed to be having so much fun.

Fingers crossed we’ll get to see an incredible performance by whoever takes the role this time. The story sees a group of friends returning to their hometown after fears a demonic clown from their childhood has returned.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
